Will be headed home here in a couple hours. It’s about five hours or so back to DC, with two babies and very little space! Zip car sure is nice for saving on gas though, I’ll tell ya. Got a couple of new song ideas to work on, and can’t wait to have a guitar in my hands again…
The fam and I are up in Pennsylvania visiting family. Nice to get outta DC for a while now and then. When we get home there’ll be plenty to post about. Justin Jones is playing the pie shop next week, and I may open for him. Justin also has a residency at DC9 for the time being, so if you’re down with good music go check him out.
Ryan and I are kicking around ideas still for Open Mic night at the pie shop. We should have a set plan soon. I’d like to start it up in January so we have time to advertise it a bit and get folks to come out. It’ll be real nice to have a forum for music like that around H street, cuz there’s lots of bars, but no open mics…
My good buddy (The Legendary) Ryan McLaughlin is playing a show tonight with John Bustine and Chuck Ragan. I’m stoked to see this show! I will post pics and video later tonight if I can get good stuff together. If you like my music at all you probably will dig Ryan’s stuff, so go check it out! Also, John Bustine is a local dude here in DC, he’s pretty awesome too. Chuck Ragan, well, nuff said.
Working on two new tunes today. Also trying to put together a good plan on how to run this open mic night we’re trying to set up. I was thinking of making it into a kind of throwdown type show. Pit a few musicians against one another in a musical deathmatch… haha. Or maybe just charge a small entry fee once a month, and the audience decides who the winner is, and he or she gets all the money from the pot. Looks like we will get a chance to try it after thanksgiving. So if you’re in DC, come on by the pie shop.
So the sova open mic is spoken word only. Which is a bummer… However, Ryan and I pitched the idea to our boss here at the pie shop, and he’s into it! So after thanksgiving we will be giving that a shot! I’ll keep giving updates here on how it’s coming along. We will try to put videos up too.
So a buddy of mine now runs the wednesday open mic night every week at Sova here in DC. After a little discussion, my pal Ryan McLaughlin and I decided to start playing it whenever we can. My writing buddy Zak will probably play as well, and maybe (Since Ryan and I work at Dangerously Delicious DC.) even the Pie Man himself if we can get him to stay in DC long enough… No matter what happens, it will be loads of fun to go in there with a bunch of rowdy mofo’s and take the place over. I’m stoked!
So this is that song I’ve been playing around with. It lacks a bridge because I couldn’t think of anything to say that didn’t sound silly. There will hopefully be a bridge later, heh. It’s also a little wonky on the mixing side, but hey, it’s a demo.
Firstly, my wife is sick today, so loud noises and guitars are a problem. I can write “quietly” but can’t really finish any demos. The other issue is the four track recorder program I’ve been using (GigBaby!) suddenly started having strange problems today. I got the new song tracked, did the vocals and a little mixing… However, when I went to “share” the file to the computer and drop it into garageband, it somehow doesn’t transmit. Then it suddenly disappears completely and is no longer on my iphone… (By the way, all four demos I have currently posted on here and myothersites, were recorded straight to my iphone then dropped into garageband and given a lil reverb.) Grrrrrr. There’s a lot of words in that new chorus and it took me about ten takes to get it right, and now it’s gone and I have to do it all over again! So I downloaded two other Apps (Airloop and Multi Track). I’ll hopefully be able to mess with them tomorrow morning. So, Sorry! You were going to get a new song and the bare bones of another tune I’m working on, but alas… You must wait!
Here’s a really rough demo of the music. This kind of happens a lot… I’ll work on one song for a couple of weeks and then get side tracked with a different riff or set of chords, and all of a sudden I’ve written one or maybe two other songs and still haven’t finished the one I started originally. Anyhow, With the lyrics and the rough demo, you probably get the idea. I’ll post a better demo with vocals later.
(And look at that! I finally figured out how to get rid of ‘binki’… :P Go me.)
So far, I’ve got a chorus done for the newest tune. One verse and one chorus. Here’s what I got so far for the new chorus:
"Call me crazy if you want,l but I won’t give up to save my life. I’ve been fightin’ for so long, that I dunno what else I’ve got inside. I’ve finally got a chance to make up for wasting all my time. Call it what you will, but this is my last chance to get it right”
